Ring Sizing Made Easy: Simple DIY Methods for Finding Your Perfect Fit

By Sifan Boru

Have you ever found yourself eyeing a stunning ring online, but hesitated because you don’t know your ring size? Or perhaps you've inherited or been gifted a ring, but you're unsure if it'll fit your finger comfortably. Don't worry; there's a simple solution to both scenarios!

If you're without a ring sizer, all you need is a length of string or a piece of paper to determine your ring size accurately. Here's how:

  1. Take the string and wrap it around the base of your ring finger, just above where it meets your hand. Make sure it's snug but not too tight. With a pen, mark the spot where the string first overlaps.

  2. Lay the string flat next to a ruler or measuring tape and note the length in millimetres or inches.

  3. Once you have your measurement, compare it with a standard ring size chart. Match your measurement to the corresponding ring size to find your perfect fit.

Alternatively, If you have an existing ring, print out a measuring chart such as this and physically compare it to the chart.

If, like me, you tend to forget things over time, including your ring size, whether it's due to the passage of a few years or a neurological disorder, you can still DIY it with nothing more than a basic ruler.

  1. Locate a ring that fits comfortably on the finger you intend to wear your new ring on.

  2. Using a ruler, measure the external diameter of the ring in millimetres. Make sure to measure from the inner edge of the ring, as this will give you a more accurate measurement. If you measure using the cm side of the ruler, simply convert it to mm.

  3. Once you have the diameter measurement, find a ring size conversion chart online to determine your ring size based on the diameter.
